June 27–July 26, 2025

Komplex presents the first edition of its ongoing program QUILTING BEE, on view from June 27 to July 26. The program title QUILTING BEE is drawn from the social movement of the same name that emerged in the nineteenth century in regions such as the United States and Canada. Taking inspiration from the communal nature of this movement, the exhibition functions as a site in which multiple artists—each with distinct backgrounds, methods, and orientations—gather within a single space to weave toward the shared objective of an exhibition.

The participating artists in this inaugural edition are Ko Yongguk, Kim Shinyoung, Kim Hyeyeon, Lee Doyub, Jun Jinkyoung, and Choi Ean. Having neither prior familiarity with one another’s practices nor personal relationships, the six artists appear to loosely share certain interests, perspectives, and attitudes, only to soon turn away from one another and proceed toward their respective aims at differing speeds and by differing means. The exhibition captures these intersections and divergences with particular acuity, forming an unforeseen and newly composed “whole.”
